It's really hard to explain, isn't it -- because everyone expects that a move to another country that you chose to make would automatically mean every single aspect of life would be better. And absolutely, some aspects of life are wonderful, and for others I am missing the UK with an intensity I didn't expect. I think sometimes it's even difficult for my partner to appreciate this, but I am learning to navigate it the best I can. Sounds like you are too :)
My Aunt Monna-your Great Grandmother Monna-- gave me this wise bit of advice when I moved back to Oklahoma: She said, " it's the people that count...you can alway find better weather, prettier scenery, more excitement...but it's the people that make a place be where you want to be." I thought that was insightful for a lady who basically lived her 102 years in about the same 50 mile radius!
